Beating off stiff competitors in the below £1m turnover category, Moixa Energy Ltd., was presented with the Winners trophy at a glittering gala Awards luncheon held yesterday at London’s East Wintergarden.

Founded in 2005, Moixa Energy Ltd., ‘rethinks axioms’ and invents new technologies and products that make electricity use more efficient.

Their first major initiative has been to reduce battery waste by making better rechargeable batteries and to use these to help raise consumer and corporate awareness of the need for sustainability. This has saved millions of batteries from future landfill and aims to help the UK avoid potential EU fines for not reducing enough UK battery landfill.

USBCELL Batteries are the first truly portable rechargeable category as they can be re-charged without a charger via an embedded USB port and circuitry, or can be charged in regular chargers, so are easy to re-use hundreds of times.

The company’s research and development unit is also working to replace inefficient electrical adaptors with efficient Direct Current servers, encouraging householders to use renewable energy sources to power consumer electronics.

The plan is to make these changes simple for consumers, using good design and technology integration to help them make step by step adjustments to a greener way of life.

Founded by British innovators and designers Simon Daniel and Chris Wright, Moixa believe they can lead the way to a short term saving of over 10% of domestic electricity waste and significantly reduce landfill and CO2 waste. They have recently been recognized internationally with a global top 50 iF Gold Product Design award and by the Computerworld Honors Programme with an Energy/Environmental Finalist award in the USA in June.

With the USBCELL batteries already proving hugely popular, Moixa will be rolling out a full range of battery formats for consumer use as well as removing the need for chargers/cables in mobile phone batteries. They are looking at international markets through partnerships with major brands and introducing a variety of solutions for energy saving in the home.

To mark their success in a unique and memorable way, the 12 National Finalists will be featured in a limited edition book, which will now be sent to government heads and influential figures around the world, showing how British business is leading the way in a new industrial revolution – one that promises to protect and preserve our planet.

Speaking immediately after the Awards, Moixa CEO, Simon Daniel, said: “This is a proud moment for Moixa Energy and an amazing recognition of our team’s hard work.

“We are delighted that Barclays recognise the importance of protecting the environment alongside profitability.”

Tom Burke CBE, leading environmentalist and chair of the judging panel said: “Judging the Awards was a very difficult task but we feel Moixa Energy is a leader in the green business revolution, a company committed to ensuring there is a world for future generations to inherit.”

Barclays Commercial Bank Marketing Director, Richard French, said: “We are delighted to recognise Moixa Energy as an inspiring example of a forward thinking company at its very best – and we congratulate Moixa Energy on winning the below £1 million turnover category of the 2008 Barclays Commercial Bank Green Leaders in Business Awards.”

Barclays Marketing Director for Local Business, John Davis, added: “Moixa Energy were deserved winners of the 2008 Award, their ecological conscience will improve the way we treat our increasingly fragile planet. I hope winning such a prestigious Award adds to their future success.”
